Despite the sometimes serious nature of broadcast television one station has managed to maintain it's giggly audience. In a recent article posted March 28, 2007 for the New York Times, Comedy Central's prime-time show ratings have increased 12 months in a row with 70 percent of its viewers being male. Shows like "South Park," and "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," continue to attract audiences and attention for the network. Just recently, a new line-up of shows including, "The Colbert Report," and "The Sarah Silverman Program," with its sarcastic humor have scored some of the best first-season ratings in the channel's history.
My opinion is simply that I love Comedy Central. I wish this article would have mentioned The Dave Chappelle Show which I am sure raised ratings when it was airing brand spanking new episodes earlier in the year. I hope that Comedy Central will continue to keep its watchers laughing.

I don't think females have the same dirty humor. Females tend to be more into the cute, romantic, silly humor that's more clean cut. There is a lot of dirty jokes, politcal jokes, and sarcasm on comedy central. Having Sarah Silverman on a channel that has a mostly male audience, might attract more female viewers. Men also appreciate stand up comedy, which is seen with the high number of male comedians versus female. I love stand up comedy, and I watch comedy central for that reason, but the other animated cartoon shows and Daily Show aren't in my tatse.
The article does seem true. I'm male and enjoy the daily show, south park, and the chapelle show. I can't say I enjoy much else on the channel. Females do tend to enjoy the cutesy sappy stuff. Women now have like 3 or 4 channels geared toward them to choose from.
